Many of them have their roots in Japan and during their development, they were mainly used for war purposes. Around the 16th century, the term was coined <i>bud\u014d<\/i> (\u6b66\u9053), consisting of two words: <i>bu<\/i> (\u6b66 \u2013 martial, military) and&nbsp;<i>d\u014d<\/i> (\u9053 \u2013 path, road), literally meaning &quot;the way of fighting&quot; or &quot;the art of war&quot;. The terms were also used interchangeably with it at that time&nbsp;<i>bujutsu<\/i> (\u6b66\u8853 \u2013 technique, martial art) and&nbsp;<i>bugey<\/i> (<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u6b66<\/span>\u82b8 \u2013&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">training the mind and body by practicing martial arts).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5ff0541 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5ff0541\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The establishment of traditional martial arts schools in Japan<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fdf5018 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fdf5018\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>With the need to train new warriors (samurai) to defend individual provinces of Japan, numerous martial arts schools were created. Each of these schools then represented its own interests (often even competing with others and keeping its techniques secret) and mainly focused on one or several of its chosen forms of fighting. The name of the school literally means &quot;school of tactics of two heavens as one&quot; as its main teaching element is fighting with two swords. Currently in<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0The school program includes: sword fighting (<i>vol<\/i><\/span><i>achi seiho<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">), short sword fighting (<\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">ko<\/i><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">dachi\u00a0<\/i><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">seiho<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">), fighting with two swords (<i>n<\/i><\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">ito seiho<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><i>)<\/i>, stick fighting (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/katorishintoryu.pl\/en\/articles\/martial-art-of-bojutsu\/\"><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">b<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">about<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><i>jutsu<\/i><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">), knife defense (<i>and<\/i><\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">ikuchi roppo<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">) and defense against the sword (<i>j<\/i><\/span><i>itte is a jutsu<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">). Her curriculum included: sword fencing (<i><a href=\"https:\/\/katorishintoryu.pl\/en\/articles\/kenjutsu\/\">kenjutsu<\/a><\/i>), the art of drawing a sword (<i>iaijutsu<\/i>), stick fighting (<i><a href=\"https:\/\/katorishintoryu.pl\/en\/articles\/martial-art-of-bojutsu\/\">b<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">about<\/span><\/a><\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><i><a href=\"https:\/\/katorishintoryu.pl\/en\/articles\/martial-art-of-bojutsu\/\">jutsu<\/a><\/i>), unarmed fighting (<i>jujitsu<\/i>), sickle fighting (<i>Kamajutsu<\/i>) and several other teachings required in traditional samurai education.\u00a0<\/span>After the Kunii Zen reform, the school limited itself to teaching swordsmanship.<\/p><p>The main element of teaching is philosophy <i>ichi-no-tachi,<\/i> which literally means &quot;first the sword&quot; and manifests itself in paying special attention to the adepts adopting the correct postures. The basis of training is five sets of kata that make up kumitachi. The first kata is performed using a wooden rucho sword equipped with a thick guard (<i>tsuba<\/i>), and the rest with a bamboo sword (<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><i>shinai<\/i>) additionally covered with leather<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0(<\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">fukuro-shinai)<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">. In the 18th century, the original Hayashizaki school split into two branches: Shinomura and Tanimura. The sixteenth sokei of the Shinamura branch was Hakud\u014d Nakayama, and it was he who in the 20th century began to use the name Mus\u014d Shinden Ry\u016b Batto-Jutsu in relation to the techniques he taught. Sensei Nakayama made a thorough review of the techniques and divided the forms depending on the advancement of the trainees (<i>shoden<\/i>, <i>skinny<\/i>, <i>window<\/i>).<\/p><p>Currently in<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0The school curriculum includes only the art of drawing a sword (<i>iaijustu<\/i>). A characteristic feature of this school is the use of silent shouts (<i>kiai<\/i>), rear cuts back over the left shoulder (<i>f<\/i><\/span><i>urikaburi<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">) and the horizontal position of sheathing the sword (<i>n<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><i>here<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">). Her father was Mus\u014d Gonnosuke - a samurai who, after losing a duel with\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Miyamoto Musashi, having undergone meditation in isolation from the world, developed fighting techniques using a short stick (<i>j<\/i><\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">about<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">). These techniques made it possible\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Gonnosuke to win (or draw, as some sources say) the next fight against his previous winner. From then on, his short stick fighting techniques (<\/span><i>j\u014djutsu<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">) became famous and spread to many different d<\/span>about<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">j<\/span>\u014d throughout Japan<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Nowadays, there are many different schools and teaching organizations\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">j\u014djutsu<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"> together with other techniques (including aikijutsu). In most schools, Mr<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">the beginnings of practice begin with learning 12 basic techniques (<\/span><i style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">kihon<\/i><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">), followed by learning individual forms of kata. It is one of the oldest Japanese classical and comprehensive war schools (<i>s\u014dg\u014d bujutsu<\/i>). Legend has it that Ch\u014disai, an outstanding swordsman in the service of the Chiba family, settled near the Katori temple after the fall of the clan. There, after training continuously for 1,000 days, he collapsed from exhaustion and while he was sleeping, a deity appeared to him and gave him a scroll. <i>mokuroku heiho no shinsho<\/i>, containing descriptions of all techniques and kata.
